History
Pigeon Point Light Station, first lit in 1872, is named for the clipper ship Carrier Pigeon that wrecked nearby in 1853. At 115 feet it is the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. Although the tower has been closed to climbers due to structural restoration, the surrounding grounds and hostel remain open and the light remains an active aid to navigation along the California coast.
