History
Boston Light, on Little Brewster Island, is the oldest light station in the United States — the original tower was first lit in 1716. Destroyed by the British in 1776, it was rebuilt in 1783 and raised in 1859. It was the last lighthouse in the country to be automated, holding a Coast Guard keeper until 1998. Accessible only by boat, it offers limited seasonal tours to the public.
